Claudia is qualified in Naturopathy, Nutritional Medicine and Western Herbal Medicine.
Like many other health professionals, I have started this journey from a personal need. When I was 16 years old I was diagnosed with a gut infection via a bacterium called Yersinia enterolitica which is a similar infection to Salmonella. After this infection was treated and stool tests provided no more evidence of the bacterium, unfortunately, my symptoms did not subside and so I went on a journey of doctors, medication and a lot of bad days. I ended up with 4 abdominal surgeries and the diagnosis of Crohn’s disease.
However bad this story sounds, it has brought me to the profession of a Naturopath and I can truly say- it’s been my calling and my passion ever since. In those days (the 90ies and early 2000s) there was no diet advice for this condition. No paleo diets, no keto-diets, no short-chain-carbohydrate-diet, no FODMAP-diets had been published and not many gluten-free or lactose-free products, etc. had been produced. It was trial and error for years on end.
Over the years I learned a lot about how my body functions, what it likes and what it absolutely cannot tolerate. I experienced bouts of excruciating pain. Also, anxiety was a given every time I felt the slightest tummy ache.
Eventually, I started studying Naturopathy, Nutritional Medicine and Western Herbal Medicine to understand what my body is going through and how to help myself, i.e. give myself the right information, tools, and diet to repair what was damaged and arrive at a point where I feel full of life again.
I’m thrilled to say that I now live a happy and healthy life with two visits a year to my gastroenterologist where we just have the usual check up on my bloods and inflammation status and are happy that it has been down for 16 years. I’m proud to now be working in a profession that has helped my health so much. It’s time to give back and help all of you with your journeys towards health!
So the story of Barr Street Naturopathy begins and I hope to be the help to people’s health journey that I never had. Once you come to my clinic I commit to helping you get back to optimal health, no matter what your condition is.
In return I expect my clients to be truthful and follow my advice. Coming back to health is always a journey and doesn’t happen overnight, so patience is required. However, I’d be happy to be on this journey together and lead the way back to optimal health.
